Nicole Worthington is a Pharmacist with a special interest in manufacturing pharmacy.
She studied Pharmacy at UPE in the early 2000’s. Thereafter, prior to joining NMU in 2018, she worked in sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing for 13 years. During this time, she held roles in Quality Assurance, Validation and Production. In 2015 she undertook a part-time coursework MPharm (Industrial) at NMU. In 2018, she graduated Cum Laude and was awarded the Nelson Mandela University Albert Wessels Trust Award – Best Master’s by Coursework Graduate for 2017: Science, Engineering and Technology.
She joined NMU in May 2018 as a lecturer in pharmaceutics. Her teaching focus area is sterile manufacturing and Good Manufacturing Practice. She draws on her experience working in the industry to bring the subjects to life for the students by using real-world examples and anecdotes. She is passionate about the role of the pharmacist in the industrial environment and impresses on her students the importance of being the advocate for the patient on the factory floor.
In her short time at NMU, she has successfully supervised and co-supervised more than eight Master’s students. She plans to embark on her PhD very soon.
