I started my journey as a pharmacist intern at a tertiary hospital in Johannesburg. I have worked as a hospital pharmacist for most of my tenure as a pharmacist. I have experience in both public and private sector pharmacies. I am currently a lecturer in the clinical pharmacology stream at the university. I aim to begin my PhD journey within the year
My research project obtained in partial fulfilment of my degree was titled: Caregiver experiences of factors influencing adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication in children under five in the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality, South Africa. A qualitative research design was adopted for this study which explored underlying factors that make adherence to prescribed medication for the treatment of tuberculosis in children under five challenging.
I chose a qualitative approach so that I can delve deeper to the lived experiences of caregivers by listening to their narratives. Qualitative research requires patience and immersion of oneself in the collected data. The ultimate objective was to highlight the need for the development of child-friendly formulations. The research project also gave me an opportunity to educate and demonstrate caregivers how to correctly reconstitute oral tablet dosage forms into a liquid dosage forms for administration
